Will the Samsung-Google Partnership around Smartwatches finally allow Google Fit to sync Samsung Health data ?

When you have big players in the market competing for User's it often leads to walled gardens being created. Apple is famous for those.  Almost everyone in the tech ecosystem - Amazon, Samsung, Google, Microsoft have tried their best to create their own has tried to emulate this & has been successful to various levels.

Walled gardens are a great way for companies to ensure users stay in their ecosystem help increase their 'ARPU' - Average Revenue per user. However this means users have less choice in choosing devices &  software. Once you commit to an ecosystem, you will likely have to stick to it. If you do break that and buy into multiple, chances are you will have an array of devices, systems & softwares that can't talk and work with each other..

However over the years, open standards & specifications & user demand have forced companies to take standards driven, interoperable approaches in some areas. Web Browsers are one such example.

The other case when companies might align & make things interoperable is when they do strategic partnerships. When this happens it can mean a Win for the customers.

Remember when Google & Amazon buried the hatchet & Chromecast started working with Amazon Prime ? I loved that :)

Now that Samsung & Google are collaborating on Smartwatches & Wear OS, Can we expect Samsung Health to sync data to Google Fit ? I have a Samsung Galaxy watch - which when I got it (after procrastinating for years whether i actually needed one.. Probably still don't if i really really think about it ;) ) , as per my research then - was 'the Android Smartwatch' to buy.. Imagine my disappointment when I discovered that it does not work with Google Fit at all.

While I get that older watches wont get the Wear OS update, i am hoping that atleast Samsung Health starts talking to Google Fit .. One can hope can't they ?
